Why Quality Is Better Than Quantity

Posted by Janelle Brown on

All throughout my journey toward a healthier lifestyle I have been fueled by one thought: a calorie is a calorie, no matter what. If I keep my calorie count in check, then I’m bound to reach optimum health, right?

Not necessarily.

In an article I read recently by Dr. Mark Hyman, I discovered that not all calories are created equal.

Consuming 100 calories worth of kale does much more for my body than 100 calories worth of cake, regardless of whether the cake is still in my desired calorie range.

Maybe this is old news and I’m the last one to the party (wouldn’t be the first time!), but it was truly eye opening and I would be remiss if I did not share my findings with my STRIVE family. I now have a better understanding of why the quality of calories I take in is much more important than the quantity, and I want the same for you!
